COVID-19 Safety Message: Visit our practice with confidence – your safety is our top concern.
We’ve reopened in accordance with CDC, O.S.H.A., and State Dental Board guidelines to responsibly resume seeing our patients for regular dental appointments and treatment. We want to assure you of the measures we take to maintain a clean and safe environment so you can continue to receive needed dental care without fear or concern.
Want a whiter, brighter smile but think that involves a lot of time or hassle? Teeth whitening is one of the fastest and most affordable cosmetic dentistry procedures. Some treatments can remove years of stains and discoloration from your teeth in less than an hour.
Our team at Dental Associates of Hollywood provides two types of teeth whitening to help you achieve the radiant smile you want in a way that fits both your budget and your lifestyle. You can relax in our office and walk out with a brighter smile that same day, or if you prefer, we also have a take-home product that can whiten your teeth in less than two weeks.
Both can produce dramatic results, especially when applied after a teeth cleaning. Your bright smile deserves a smooth canvas, and a professional cleaning removes any food particles and bacteria that can contribute to tooth stains and interfere with the whitening treatment.
Zoom® Teeth Whitening: Whiter Teeth in One Day
We proudly offer Zoom® WhiteSpeed teeth whitening treatment, the most requested professional teeth whitening brand in America. Relax in our office in Hollywood while you brighten your smile in comfort, even if you have sensitive teeth. This low-intensity treatment delivers a smile that’s up to eight shades whiter after just one appointment.
After determining that you don’t have any cavities or gum disease, our hygienist or dentist will assess your current tooth color to plan your treatment. Then we’ll take impressions of your teeth for custom molds. Once we’re ready to begin, our dental professional will apply a hydrogen peroxide whitening gel to the molds and your teeth. A special chairside light accelerates the whitening process, helping the gel to penetrate the teeth and break up stains and discoloration.
To keep you comfortable, we pace the treatment over three 15-minute sessions for a total time of 45 minutes. You can watch TV, read, or listen to music while you wait and leave with a whiter smile when you’re finished.
Opalescence Go®: Whiten Your Teeth at Home
If you prefer more privacy, our office in Hollywood provides Opalescence Go, a take-home tooth whitening kit. With this professional-strength product available only from dentists, you can whiten your teeth on your own schedule. You’ll see impressive results in five to ten days.
Opalescence Go is ready to use right out of the box. Safe and effective, it features innovative trays prefilled with a whitening gel that includes potassium nitrate and fluoride. These ingredients are proven to help reduce cavities, minimize tooth sensitivity, increase the hardness of tooth enamel, and improve the overall health of teeth.
Simply center one of the disposable trays over your upper or lower teeth. Then bite gently and suck down or swallow to secure the gel against your teeth. You’ll remove the colored outer tray to reveal a clear and comfortable inner tray for the duration of the treatment.
Opalescence Go comes in two concentrations of whitening ingredients to determine your treatment time. Choose a 15% concentration worn for 15 to 20 minutes a day over five to ten days, or a 10% concentration worn for about 30 to 60 minutes over the same period of time.
Once your daily treatment is done, cleanup is simple. Just throw out the disposable tray and brush your teeth as you normally would.
Why Whiten Your Teeth?
Our natural tooth color is actually a combination of two things: light reflected off the enamel (the hard outer layer of the tooth) and the color of the dentin (the middle layer) underneath. Our genetic makeup determines the thickness and smoothness of tooth enamel. Some people have thinner enamel—and more visible dentin—than others.
As we age, the enamel becomes thinner while the dentin grows darker, changing our tooth color to a yellowish or dingy shade. But there are other reasons teeth become discolored. Enamel is porous, so it can be susceptible to color changes from certain foods, beverages, and other substances.
That morning cup of coffee isn’t the only culprit. The most common causes of tooth discoloration include:
- Tobacco products
- Certain medical treatments and medications
- Beverages such as coffee, tea, red wines, and colas
- Poor dental hygiene
- Tooth decay or trauma
Dental work such as a crown, a bridge, a veneer or dentures also benefits from whitening your natural teeth beforehand. The dental porcelain used in such cosmetic and restorative treatments is color-matched to your natural teeth to blend in seamlessly. These artificial fixtures are designed to resist staining, so they don’t respond to whitening treatments. So whitening your teeth after such dental work tends to make it stand out.
