COVID-19 Safety Message: Visit our practice with confidence – your safety is our top concern.
We’ve reopened in accordance with CDC, O.S.H.A., and State Dental Board guidelines to responsibly resume seeing our patients for regular dental appointments and treatment. We want to assure you of the measures we take to maintain a clean and safe environment so you can continue to receive needed dental care without fear or concern.
Imagine having a whiter, radiant smile before your next business meeting, dinner date, or milestone event. Teeth whitening is one of the fastest and most affordable cosmetic dentistry procedures. It can remove years of tooth discoloration and stains in less than an hour.
Our team at Dental Center at Baptist provides two ways to help you achieve the beautiful smile you want in a manner that fits both your budget and your lifestyle. You can relax in our office and walk out with a brighter smile that same day, or use a take-home product that can whiten your teeth for minutes a day in less than two weeks.
Both provide dramatic results, especially when applied after a teeth cleaning. Consider a professional cleaning a blank canvas for your new smile. Our dental professionals will remove any food particles and bacteria that can contribute to tooth stains or interfere with the whitening treatment.
Zoom® Teeth Whitening: Whiter Teeth in One Day
Relax in our office in Miami while you brighten your smile comfortably, even if you have sensitive teeth, with Zoom® WhiteSpeed. We’re proud to offer the most requested professional teeth whitening brand in America, capable of delivering a smile that’s up to eight shades whiter after just one appointment.
First, our hygienist or dentist will determine that you don’t have any cavities or gum disease. Then we’ll assess your current tooth shade and take impressions for custom-made trays for your treatment. Once you’re ready for treatment, our dental professional will apply a hydrogen peroxide whitening gel to your teeth, then turn on a special chairside light that helps accelerate the whitening process.
To ensure your comfort, each gel treatment lasts 15 minutes for a total treatment time of 45 minutes. Read, watch TV, or listen to music while you wait, then leave our office with a whiter smile.
Opalescence Go®: Impressive Teeth Whitening at Home
If you’d prefer to whiten your teeth at home, our office in Miami also provides Opalescence Go. This professional-strength product enables you to whiten your teeth on your own schedule and produces impressive results in five to ten days.
Safe, effective, and simple, Opalescence Go is ready to use right out of the box. Each kit features innovative trays prefilled with a whitening gel that includes potassium nitrate and fluoride to improve your teeth’s overall health. Findings show that these particular ingredients help reduce cavities, minimize tooth sensitivity, and increase the hardness of tooth enamel.
To start your treatment, center one of the disposable trays over your upper or lower teeth. Then bite gently. You’ll suck down or swallow to secure the gel against your teeth, then remove the colored outer tray to expose the clear and comfortable inner tray worn for the treatment time.
Opalescence Go comes in two concentrations of whitening ingredients, which determines how long you wear each tray. Many people choose a 15% concentration worn for 15 to 20 minutes a day over five to ten days. There’s also a 10% concentration worn for about 30 to 60 minutes over the same duration.
Cleanup is easy. Once your daily treatment time is done, throw away the tray and brush your teeth as you normally would.
Why Whiten Your Teeth?
Our teeth never seem to gleam the way they did when we were youngsters. The color of our teeth comes from a combination of the light reflected off the enamel (the hard outer layer of the tooth) and the color of the dentin (the middle layer) underneath. As we grow older, our tooth enamel thins and the dentin darkens, which can make our teeth look dull, dingy, or discolored.
Our genetic makeup determines the thickness and smoothness of our tooth enamel. Some of us might have thinner enamel—and more visible dentin—than others. Enamel also is porous, so some foods and beverages can affect our tooth color by seeping through the enamel.
The most common causes of tooth discoloration include:
- Tobacco products such as cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and cigars
- Dark-colored beverages such as coffee, tea, red wines, and colas
- Dark-colored foods such as blueberries
- Age and heredity
- Certain medical treatments and medications
- Poor dental hygiene and tooth decay
- Trauma to a tooth or teeth
You might want to whiten your teeth before getting dental work such as a crown, a bridge, a veneer or dentures. The dental porcelain used in such cosmetic and restorative treatments is color-matched to your natural teeth so you can’t tell which is real and which is artificial. The problem is that if it’s color-matched to your teeth when they’re dingy, the restoration will also be that darker color. Most types of restorations are stain-resistant, which means they won’t respond to teeth whitening treatments.
