Your dental health is important, and our patients’ safety is our top priority. We want to assure you of the measures we take to maintain a clean and safe environment so you can continue to receive needed dental care without fear or concern. We are monitoring the COVID-19 situation and all CDC guidelines very closely.
Want a whiter, beautiful smile before your next dinner date, business meeting, or social event? Teeth whitening—one of the fastest, most convenient, and most affordable cosmetic dentistry procedures—can remove years of tooth stains and discoloration in less than an hour. Imagine having your teeth whitened over your lunch break!
If you prefer something more private, our team at Towncare Dental of Forest Hill can assist you, too. We provide two teeth whitening methods to help you achieve the brilliant smile you want in a way that fits your budget and your lifestyle. Some patients like to relax in our office and walk out with a brighter smile that same day while others prefer a take-home product that can professionally bleach their teeth for minutes a day in less than two weeks.
You’ll see dramatic results, especially if you whiten your teeth after a professional cleaning. A cleaning acts like a blank canvas for your new smile. It removes any food particles or bacteria that can contribute to stains on your teeth or interfere with the whitening treatment.
Opalescence Boost: Whiten Your Teeth in a Day
Our office in West Palm Beach is proud to offer Opalescence Boost Teeth Whitening, so you can whiten your smile while you relax in our care. Opalescence Boost uses a tooth-whitening gel that includes potassium nitrate and fluoride, two ingredients that research has shown help reduce cavities, minimize tooth sensitivity, and increase the hardness of your natural tooth enamel.
Opalescence Boost is chemically activated, so it doesn’t need to be paired with a light to take effect. It’s a quick, comfortable, and effective way to whiten teeth and remove stains without much of a wait.
Before applying Opalescence Boost, our hygienist or dentist will confirm that you don’t have any cavities or gum disease. Then we’ll assess your current tooth color and apply the whitening gel to your teeth with a gentle, brushed tip. You’ll have a significantly whiter smile before you’re ready to leave.
Opalescence Go®: Impressive Teeth Whitening at Home
Our office in West Palm Beach also provides Opalescence Go if you prefer a more discreet teeth whitening option. Available only from dentists, this professional-strength product enables you to whiten your teeth on your own schedule, with impressive results in five to ten days.
Opalescence Go is safe, effective, and so simple, it’s ready to use right out of the box. The system features innovative trays prefilled with a whitening gel, so there’s no need to measure anything or worry that you won’t have enough supplies. The gel includes potassium nitrate and fluoride, two ingredients that findings have shown improve your teeth’s overall health by helping to reduce cavities, minimize tooth sensitivity, and increase the hardness of tooth enamel.
To begin whitening your teeth, center one of the trays over your upper or lower teeth and bite gently. You’ll have to swallow to secure the gel against your teeth, then remove the colored outer tray to expose the clear and comfortable inner tray of gel.
Choose from two different concentrations of whitening ingredients to meet your needs. You’ll wear the 15% concentration for 15 to 20 minutes a day over five to ten days, or the 10% concentration for about 30 to 60 minutes over the same length of time.
Once your daily whitening session is done, just remove the disposable tray and brush your teeth as you normally would.
Why Whiten Your Teeth?
Even if you’re diligent about your dental care, you’re bound to notice your teeth becoming dingy, yellow, or discolored over time. Two factors combine to create the color of our teeth: the light reflected off the enamel (the hard outer layer of the tooth) and the color of the dentin (the middle layer) underneath the enamel. Because of genetics, some people have thinner enamel—and more visible dentin.
But as we age, our enamel thins and the dentin darkens, affecting our tooth color. Also, enamel is porous, so some foods and beverages can impact our tooth color as well.
Common causes of discolored teeth include:
- Dark-colored beverages such as coffee, tea, red wines, and colas
- Tobacco products including chewing tobacco, cigars and cigarettes
- Poor brushing or flossing
- Certain medical treatments and medications
- Tooth decay
- Tooth injury
Getting dental work such as a veneer, a crown, a bridge, or dentures also is a good reason to whiten your natural teeth first. The dental porcelain used in such cosmetic and restorative treatments is color-matched to your natural teeth to blend in seamlessly. Because they’re designed to be stain resistant, these artificial fixtures don’t respond to whitening treatments. So if you whiten your teeth after these procedures, you’re likely to make such dental work more obvious.
