We Are Open – Safety is Our Top Priority!
We’ve reopened in accordance with CDC, O.S.H.A., and State Dental Board guidelines to responsibly resume seeing our patients for regular dental appointments and treatment. We want to assure you of the measures we take to maintain a clean and safe environment so you can continue to receive needed dental care without fear or concern.
Have you wanted a whiter, brighter smile but think it involves a lot of time or hassle? Teeth whitening is one of the fastest, most convenient, and most affordable cosmetic dentistry procedures. Imagine removing years of stains and discoloration from your teeth in less than an hour!
Our team at Towncare Dental of Ft. Myers provides two types of teeth whitening systems to help you achieve the radiant smile you want in a way that suits both your budget and your lifestyle. You can relax in our office and walk out with a brighter smile that same day, or use a take-home product that can whiten your teeth for minutes a day if you prefer something more private.
Our patients see impressive, even dramatic results, especially if you get your teeth whitened after a professional cleaning. A professional cleaning removes any food particles and bacteria that can contribute to tooth stains and interfere with the whitening process. Call us today at (239) 243-9238 to schedule your dental cleaning.
Why Whiten Your Teeth?
Teeth can change color and become yellowish or grey for several reasons. Our tooth color is actually a combination of the light reflected off the enamel—the hard outer surface of a tooth—and the color of the dentin, or middle layer, underneath the enamel. Because of genetics, some of us have thinner enamel—and more visible dentin.
As we age, the enamel becomes thinner while the dentin tends to grow darker, which affects our tooth color. Enamel also is porous, allowing other factors such as certain foods and beverages to impact the color.
The most common causes of tooth discoloration include:
- Tobacco products
- Beverages such as tea, coffee, red wines, and dark-colored sodas
- Certain medical treatments and medications
- Tooth decay or trauma
- Poor dental hygiene
Getting your teeth whitened before dental work such as a crown, a bridge, a veneer or dentures also helps these fixtures blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth over time. The dental porcelain used in such cosmetic and restorative treatments is color-matched to your natural teeth, but because it’s stain resistant, it doesn’t respond to whitening treatments. So if you whiten your teeth later, your dental work will appear more noticeable.
Zoom® Teeth Whitening: Whiter Teeth in One Day
Towncare Dental of Ft. Myers is proud to offer Zoom® WhiteSpeed teeth whitening treatment, which can deliver a smile that’s up to eight shades whiter after just one appointment. Zoom is the most requested professional teeth whitening brand in America. With Zoom, you can relax in our office while you brighten your smile comfortably, even if you have sensitive teeth.
First, our hygienist or dentist will confirm that you don’t have any cavities or gum disease. Then we’ll assess your current tooth color to adjust your treatment. Our dental professional will apply a hydrogen peroxide whitening gel, then turn on a special light. The light accelerates the whitening process by helping the gel penetrate the teeth and breaking up discolorations beneath the surface.
To ensure your comfort, the one-day treatment is broken into three 15-minute sessions for a total treatment time of 45 minutes. You can watch TV, listen to music, or read while you wait, knowing that you’ll leave our office with a whiter smile.
Opalescence Go®: Impressive Teeth Whitening at Home
If you prefer a more discreet option, our office in Fort Myers also provides Opalescence Go, a take-home tooth whitening kit. This professional-strength product available only from dentists enables you to whiten your teeth on your own schedule with impressive results in five to ten days.
Opalescence Go is ready to use right out of the box. Effective and safe, it features innovative trays prefilled with a whitening gel, so there’s no need to measure or worry about running out of supplies. The gel includes potassium nitrate and fluoride, two ingredients proven to help reduce cavities, minimize tooth sensitivity, increase the hardness of tooth enamel, and improve your teeth’s overall health.
To start whitening, simply center one of the disposable trays over your upper or lower teeth and bite gently. You’ll need to suck down or swallow to secure the gel against your teeth, then remove the colored outer tray to reveal a clear and comfortable inner tray for your treatment.
You’ll wear the inner tray for a different length of time depending on the concentration of whitening gel. Choose a 15% concentration worn for 15 to 20 minutes a day over five to ten days, or a 10% concentration worn for about 30 to 60 minutes over the same duration.
Once your daily treatment is done, just throw out the disposable tray and brush your teeth as you normally would.
