If you’re prepping for a dinner date, a business meeting, or another special occasion, why not dress up your smile? Teeth whitening can give you a bright, beautiful smile in less than an hour. It’s one of the fastest and most affordable methods of cosmetic dentistry and removes years of stains and tooth discoloration essentially in minutes.

Our office in Hialeah has different methods to help you achieve gorgeous results within your budget and your lifestyle. You can make an appointment to whiten your teeth during one visit, or take home an easy-to-use kit to bleach your teeth in private.

Whichever treatment you choose provides dramatic results, especially when applied after a teeth cleaning. A professional cleaning removes any bacteria or food particles that can contribute to tooth stains or interfere with the treatment. It’s the perfect way to make sure you start with a smooth surface so you can get the best results.

Why Whiten Your Teeth?

We all notice that our teeth become less white or even yellow as we age. That’s because the hard outer layer of the tooth—the enamel—becomes thinner while the middle layer, or dentin, tends to grow darker. The color of your teeth comes from a combination of the light reflected off the enamel and the color of the dentin underneath. As the enamel thins and the dentin darkens, our tooth color changes.

Our genetic makeup determines the thickness and smoothness of our tooth enamel. Some people might have thinner enamel—and more visible dentin—than others. Plus, enamel is porous, so some dark-colored foods and beverages can seep into it and affect tooth color.

Dull, dingy, or discolored teeth can make anyone feel self-conscious. The most common causes of tooth discoloration include:

  • Poor hygiene, such as infrequent teeth brushing or flossing
  • Beverages such as coffee, tea, red wines, and colas
  • Chewing tobacco, cigarettes, cigars, and other tobacco products
  • Getting older
  • Certain medical treatments and medications
  • Tooth decay or trauma

In addition to removing stains or discoloration, tooth whitening can also help prepare your teeth for dental work such as a crown, a bridge, a veneer or dentures. The dental porcelain used in such cosmetic and restorative treatments is color-matched to your natural teeth to blend in seamlessly. Crowns, bridges, and other such dental fixtures are designed to be stain resistant, so they don’t respond to whitening treatments. So if you whiten dull or dingy teeth after such dental work, the artificial tooth will stand out.

Zoom Ultimate Protocol: Superior Results In-Office and At Home

Our office in Hialeah is proud to offer Zoom® Ultimate Protocol to effectively treat deep stains or discoloration. This two-pronged strategy uses Zoom WhiteSpeed in our office with Zoom NiteWhite take-home treatment.

Zoom teeth whitening uses a high-concentration whitening agent that is not available over-the-counter. It’s a relatively fast and pain-free way to whiten teeth significantly. Patients in a case study saw an average improvement of eleven shades after using two-pronged treatment.

After an initial consultation to confirm that you don’t have any cavities or gum disease, either our hygienist or our dentist will assess your current tooth color and take impressions for your custom-made trays to hold the whitening gel.

During the in-office treatment, our dental professional will apply the gel to the trays and turn on a special chairside light to activate the ingredients. Because the light accelerates the whitening process, you can whiten your teeth comfortably in up to four 15-minute increments, depending on your needs.

To complement the in-office treatment, you’ll also use two to four take-home treatments of Zoom NiteWhite. This kit includes lightweight, comfortable trays that fit the shape and size of your mouth. Just fill them with whitening gel, bite gently, and wear them for up to four hours daily or overnight for roughly two weeks.

Opalescence Go: Impressive Teeth Whitening at Home

If you don’t need the intensity of Zoom Ultimate Protocol, or if you prefer a more different option that you can use at home, our office in Hialeah also provides Opalescence Go. This professional-strength product is available only from dentists but is safe, effective, and simple to use. Treatment lasts five to ten days, but many people see an incredible difference after the first few uses.

Opalescence Go features innovative trays prefilled with a whitening gel that includes potassium nitrate and fluoride. Findings have shown that these ingredients improve your teeth’s overall health by helping to reduce cavities, minimize tooth sensitivity, and increasing the hardness of tooth enamel.

To use Opalescence Go, just center one of the disposable trays over your upper or lower teeth. Bite gently and suck down to secure the gel against the teeth, then remove the colored outer tray. You’ll wear the clear and comfortable inner tray during the treatment, keeping the gel from leaking onto your gums.

Choose a 15% concentration of whitening ingredients to wear for 15 to 20 minutes a day over five to ten days, or a 10% concentration worn for about 30 to 60 minutes over the same time frame. Once each daily treatment is done, remove and discard the tray and brush your teeth as you do normally.
