Say goodbye to dingy or yellow teeth and get that bright, white smile you’ve always wanted in about an hour, thanks to professional teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is one of the fastest and most affordable methods of cosmetic dentistry. It helps remove years of stains and discoloration essentially in minutes.

Our office in Plantation offers teeth whitening methods to help you achieve beautiful results within your budget and your lifestyle. You can make an appointment to whiten your teeth during one visit, or take home a kit to bleach your teeth easily in private for about 15 minutes a day over about ten days.

Whichever treatment you choose provides dramatic results, especially when applied after a teeth cleaning. A professional cleaning removes any bacteria and food particles that can contribute to tooth stains or interfere with the whitening treatment. Think of it as a blank canvas for your new smile.

Why Whiten Your Teeth?

Discolored, dull, or dingy teeth can make anyone feel self-conscious. Everyone’s teeth can become darker, grey, or even yellow as we age. That’s because the enamel, or the hard outer layer of the tooth, becomes thinner while the middle layer, or dentin, grows darker. The color of your teeth is a combination of the light reflected off the enamel and the color of the dentin underneath, so as the enamel thins and the dentin darkens, our tooth color changes.

But there are several causes of tooth stains. Everyone’s genetic makeup determines the thickness and smoothness of tooth enamel. Some people have thinner enamel—and more visible dentin—than others. Plus, enamel is porous, so certain foods and beverages can seep through the enamel and affect your tooth color.

The most common causes of tooth discoloration include:

  • Beverages such as coffee, tea, red wines, and colas
  • Tobacco products
  • Poor dental hygiene
  • Aging
  • Certain medical treatments and medications
  • Tooth decay or trauma

Another reason to whiten your teeth is in preparation for dental work such as a crown, a bridge, a veneer or dentures. The dental porcelain used in such cosmetic and restorative treatments is color-matched to your natural teeth to blend in naturally. So if your natural teeth become discolored, the artificial tooth will stand out. Because they’re designed to be stain resistant, crowns, bridges, and other such dental fixtures don’t respond to whitening treatments.

Zoom® Teeth Whitening: Whiter Teeth in One Day

With Zoom® WhiteSpeed teeth whitening treatment, our office in Plantation can give you a smile that’s up to eight shades whiter after just one appointment. Zoom is the most requested professional teeth whitening brand in America because it’s a low-intensity treatment that delivers gorgeous results. Best of all, you can relax in our office while you brighten your smile comfortably, even if you have sensitive teeth.

First, our hygienist or dentist will confirm that you don’t have any cavities or gum disease. We’ll then assess your current tooth color to determine the duration of your treatment.

Zoom uses a hydrogen peroxide whitening gel in a strength that’s not available over the counter. Our dental professional applies it to your teeth, then turns on a special light that helps the gel penetrate the enamel and break up stains and discoloration. To ensure your comfort, the one-day treatment is broken into as many as three 15-minute sessions for a total treatment time of 45 minutes. You can read, watch TV, or listen to music while you wait and leave our office with a whiter smile when you’re done.

Opalescence Go®: Whiten Your Teeth at Home

If you prefer a more private option, Opalescence Go is a professional-strength teeth whitening product in a kit you can use at home. Available only from dentists, Opalescence Go is a safe, effective, and simple way to brighten your teeth dramatically in less than two weeks.

It comes in a kit with trays filled with pleasant-tasting whitening gel, so you won’t need to be fitted for any custom mouthpiece or worry about measuring the proper amount. Opalescence Go uses a hydrogen peroxide gel that includes potassium nitrate and fluoride, two ingredients that improve the overall health of your teeth. Findings show that potassium nitrate and fluoride help to minimize sensitivity, reduce cavities, and increase the hardness of tooth enamel.

Just center one of the prefilled trays over your upper or lower teeth and bite gently. Suck down or swallow to secure the gel against your teeth, then remove the colored outer tray to expose a clear, comfortable inner tray that you’ll wear for the treatment time.

Opalescence Go comes in two different strengths. Choose a concentration of 15% of whitening ingredients to wear for 15 to 20 minutes a day over five to ten days, or a 10% concentration worn for about 30 to 60 minutes over the same length of time.

Once the treatment time is done, remove the disposable tray and brush your teeth, being careful not to swallow any remaining gel. You’ll notice an impressive difference after the first few uses.
