We Are Open – Safety is Our Top Priority!
We’ve reopened in accordance with CDC, O.S.H.A., and State Dental Board guidelines to responsibly resume seeing our patients for regular dental appointments and treatment. We want to assure you of the measures we take to maintain a clean and safe environment so you can continue to receive needed dental care without fear or concern.
If you need a root canal, your dentist may refer you to one of our endodontists at Towncare Dental of London Square. An endodontist is a dentist who completed an additional two to three years of specialty training to diagnose and treat the soft inner part of the tooth called the pulp. The word endodontic comes from the Greek words “endo” which means inside and “odont” which means tooth.
Our endodontists are the experts at saving teeth that would otherwise need to be pulled. An endodontist’s advanced training, specialized techniques, and proven experience means you get the highest quality care and the highest rate of success.
What Does an Endodontist Do?
If you have a toothache or red, inflamed gums, the soft inner pulp of the tooth may be infected or damaged. The pulp is the soft tissue that contains nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue which helps the root of the tooth grow during its development. Our endodontists at Towncare Dental of London Square can diagnose the cause of the toothache and then perform the necessary treatment to eliminate the pain and save the tooth.
The most common type of endodontic treatment is a root canal procedure. Millions of teeth are saved each year through this type of treatment. It’s very effective and does not hurt. Root canals eliminate pain; they don’t cause it. READ MORE
What Can I Expect During My Visit to the Endodontist?
At Towncare Dental, we welcome people who have been referred to us by their general dentist and people who found us through other methods, such as referrals from friends or from the internet. If you were referred to us by your regular dentist, then we may request copies of the x-rays you had taken there.
When you come in for your first appointment with one of our endodontists, we’ll have you complete a medical history form, confirm any medications you currently take, and talk to you about your symptoms. We’ll take x-rays if necessary and will examine the problematic tooth or teeth. Then our root canal specialist will discuss the best way to treat the problem and answer all of your questions.
Depending on the severity of the tooth infection, the root canal treatment can either take place that day or will be scheduled for another day. If you decide to wait for treatment, our endodontist can prescribe medication to decrease the inflammation and relieve the toothache.
Call Today for an Endodontic Consultation
If you have a toothache or another sign that there is a problem with a tooth, call the Towncare Dental of London Square office closest to you. The longer you delay treatment, the more you risk losing the tooth. The alternative to a root canal is usually to have the tooth pulled. By saving your natural tooth, you preserve your ability to chew food, speak clearly, and smile easily. If the tooth needs to be extracted, then you’ll need a bridge or a dental implant to fill the gap, and that can be costly.
Remember, always act immediately if you have any tooth pain or swelling. Call one of our endodontists today. We look forward to helping you.
