Why Dentures Give You Every Reason to Smile

Why Dentures Give You Every Reason to Smile

Are you troubled by missing teeth? You can fix that trouble on the double with dentures. These replacements for missing teeth are extremely popular and prevalent because they solve so many problems for so many people. Dentures can help you look better, appear younger, improve your dental health, and live a much more fulfilling life. Once you learn more about the beauty of dentures, you’ll see why they put a smile on so many faces.

There are two types of dentures. The first is called complete dentures and these can be either immediate or conventional. Both are used when all of your natural teeth have been lost or removed. Immediate dentures are made in advance and are used as soon as the teeth are removed. The advantage of immediate dentures is not having to spend any time without teeth, but the disadvantage is that they require more adjustments, since they are worn during the healing process when the mouth is changing. Conventional dentures are made after the gums have healed, so they aren’t ready to wear until up to three months after removal of teeth.

Partial dentures, also called bridges, are the second type, and can be fixed or removable. They are ideal when some of your natural teeth remain, because they fill in the gaps created by missing teeth and give more comfort, ease with chewing, clearer speech, and more self-confidence. They also support your jaw and facial muscles and prevent your other teeth from shifting. A fixed bridge is cemented into place and can only be removed by a dentist. A removable bridge is attached to a plastic base with a metal framework that holds it in place for a good fit and easy removal. While fixed bridges are more costly, they don’t require the daily cleaning that removable bridges do, and tend to feel more stable in the mouth. Talk to a dentist in Florida to find out which option is best for you.

Many dental insurance plans cover all or some of the cost of dentures. However, if you don’t have a dental plan, you can find an affordable dentist in Florida who will offer a payment option.

While dentures will improve your quality of life and self-confidence, it can take some time and patience to get used to them. As your muscles get accustomed to holding them in place, your new dentures may feel loose for a few weeks. And it may take practice to be comfortable with inserting and removing your dentures.

You may find that eating seems strange in the beginning, so start with soft foods and chew slowly and thoroughly with both sides of your mouth. As it gets easier to eat with your dentures, add more foods and you’ll soon be back to your regular diet. You may also find it hard to pronounce certain words at first, so if you practice saying those difficult words, you will soon be able to say everything easily and clearly.

These issues are minor and you’ll soon be comfortable and confident wearing your new dentures.
