Teeth whitening in Miami, Florida
As we age, our teeth color can change from “pearly white” to off-white, yellow, even grey. Teeth whitening is a fast, convenient, and affordable cosmetic dentistry procedure that can remove years of tooth stains and discoloration in less than an hour.
Imagine having your teeth whitened over your lunch break! If you prefer something more discreet, our team at Towncare Dental of Pinecrest can assist you, too. We provide three methods of tooth whitening to help you achieve the radiant smile you want in a way that suits your lifestyle and your budget.
You can relax in our office and walk out with a brighter smile that same day, or take home an easy-to-use product that can whiten your teeth professionally within minutes a day in less than two weeks. These methods produce dramatic results, especially when they’re applied to clean teeth.
Consider a professional cleaning a foundation or blank canvas for your new smile. Cleaning removes any food particles or bacteria that can contribute to stains on your teeth or interfere with the whitening treatment.
Why Whiten Your Teeth?
Everyone’s tooth color changes over time because of a variety of factors. Our tooth color actually comes from a combination of the light reflected off the surface of our teeth (enamel) and the color of the dentin (the middle layer) underneath the enamel.
Some people have more visible dentin because their genetics gave them thinner enamel. As we age, tooth enamel becomes thinner and the dentin darkens, affecting our tooth color.
Enamel also is porous, so some foods and beverages also can impact tooth color. However, that morning cup of coffee isn’t solely to blame for dull, dingy, or discolored teeth. The most common causes of tooth discoloration include:
- Tobacco products
- Poor dental hygiene
- Certain medical treatments and medications
- Beverages such as coffee, tea, red wines, and colas
- Aging
- Tooth decay or trauma
Tooth whitening also can be a good preparation for dental work such as a crown, a bridge, a veneer or dentures. The dental porcelain used in these cosmetic and restorative dental fixtures is color-matched to your natural teeth to blend in seamlessly.
These fixtures don’t respond to whitening treatments because they’re designed to be stain resistant, so if you whiten your natural teeth later, your dental work will become more noticeable.
Zoom® Teeth Whitening: Whiter Teeth in One Day
Our office in Miami is proud to offer Zoom® WhiteSpeed teeth whitening treatment, the most requested professional teeth whitening brand in America.
Zoom can deliver a smile that’s up to eight shades whiter after just one appointment and is proven to be comfortable for people with sensitive teeth. In fact, because of Zoom’s adjustable intensity settings, the majority of patients experience little to no tooth sensitivity afterward.
Best of all, you can relax in our office, read, or listen to music while Zoom works its whitening magic to give you the smile you desire. Before getting started, our hygienist or dentist will ensure that you don’t have any cavities or gum disease. We’ll assess your current tooth color to plan your treatment, then take impressions of your teeth for custom-made trays.
Zoom uses a hydrogen peroxide whitening gel that works with a special chairside light that accelerates the whitening process. The light helps the gel to penetrate the teeth and break up stains and discoloration faster.
Treatment consists of three 15-minute sessions for a total time of 45 minutes. Afterward, you’ll leave our office with a much-whiter smile.
Opalescence Go®: Impressive Teeth Whitening at Home
If you’d rather whiten your teeth on your own schedule in private, our office in Miami also carries Opalescence Go, a take-home tooth whitening kit. This professional-strength product available only from dentists produces significant results in five to ten days.
Opalescence Go is ready to use right out of the box. Safe and effective, it features innovative trays prefilled with a whitening gel, so there’s no messy measuring or concern about having the right amount. The gel includes potassium nitrate and fluoride.
With Opalescence Go, you’ll center one of the kit’s disposable trays over your upper or lower teeth. Then bite gently and swallow to secure the gel against your teeth. You’ll need to remove the colored outer tray to reveal the clear and comfortable inner tray with the gel.
The kits come in two concentrations of whitening ingredients to meet your needs. Choose a 15% concentration worn for 15 to 20 minutes a day over five to ten days, or a 10% concentration worn for about 30 to 60 minutes over the same length of time.
Once your daily treatment is done, just throw out the disposable tray and brush your teeth as you normally would for easy cleanup.
GLO Teeth Whitening
Though it’s lesser known than other methods of whitening, heat is a powerful tool to accelerate and amplify teeth whitening. Gentle heat acts as a catalyst for the whitening agent hydrogen peroxide, allowing the hydrogen peroxide whitening gel to whiten teeth more effectively in less time.
Heat is an effective catalyst to use in conjunction with hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth quickly. Gentle heat is safe to use on teeth. For best results without damaging enamel, use a dentist-designed whitening device that uses gentle heat to whiten.
