Benefits of the All-on-4 Implant-Supported Denture Treatment

The All-on-4 Treatment Concept was introduced by Nobel Biocare, a world leader in dental technology, in 1998. Since then, it has become a popular choice for denture wearers.

Not only does the All-on-4 Treatment Concept prevent embarrassing slippage, the procedure is less invasive than traditional dental implant surgery.

Traditional dental implant surgery often requires repeated visits to the dental office to undergo bone grafts necessary to build up the jawbone so it can support the implants.

With the All-on-4 Treatment Concept, most people don’t require bone grafts. As a result, patients heal more quickly and are able to enjoy their permanent dentures supported by All-on-4 dental implants sooner.

Patients leave their appointment with their All-on-4 implants topped by a temporary denture. In some cases, they can even have their permanent denture placed the same day.

This procedure is nicknamed “teeth-in-a-day.” Because the All-on-4 Treatment Concept requires fewer implants and less invasive surgery, it is typically less expensive than traditional implant surgery.

How the All-on-4 Treatment Procedure Works

All-on-4 dental implant therapy uses just four dental implants to permanently attach a complete row of prosthetic teeth, known as a denture or bridge, to the upper or lower jaw.

After the patient has been lightly sedated, the dentist places two small titanium posts into the jawbone in the front of the mouth and two more implants tilted at a 45-degree angle in the back of the mouth.

The 45-degree angle allows the dentist to place the implants deeper into the jawbone than is possible with traditional implants. As a result, the bone grafts that often accompany traditional dental implant surgery are no longer necessary.

Titanium is used for the implants because it is a metal that is compatible with human bone. Within a few months, the jawbone will fuse around the implants, firmly and permanently locking them into place.

Once the jawbone has completely fused with the implants, the patient returns to the dental office to receive a permanent bridge or denture that is custom-made to match the shape and shade of the patient’s natural teeth.

Your friends and family will never know that your teeth aren’t the real thing. In addition to providing a permanent foundation for a denture or bridge, All-on-4 dental implants offer the additional advantage of preventing the jawbone from deteriorating.
