Teeth whitening in Plantation, Florida
If you’re preparing for a dinner date, a business meeting, a birthday celebration or another special occasion, why not dress with up a dazzling smile? Teeth whitening can give you a bright, beautiful smile in less than an hour, removing years of tooth stains and discoloration basically in minutes. It’s one of the fastest, most affordable, and most convenient methods of cosmetic dentistry.
Our team at Superior Dental in Plantation has two ways to help you achieve gorgeous results that suit your budget, your schedule, and your lifestyle. You can make an appointment to whiten your teeth during one visit, or take home an easy-to-use kit to bleach your teeth professionally in private.
The results are impressive, especially after a teeth cleaning. A professional cleaning removes any bacteria or food particles that can interfere with the treatment or contribute to tooth stains. Consider it the best first step to creating a smooth surface for teeth whitening.
Why Do People Whiten Teeth?
Our tooth color comes from a combination of factors: the light reflected off the enamel (the hard outer layer of our teeth) and the color of the dentin (the middle layer) underneath the enamel.
Our genetic makeup determines the thickness and smoothness of our tooth enamel, so some people have thinner enamel and more visible dentin than others. Yet even if you’re diligent about your dental hygiene, you’ll notice that your teeth become less white or even yellow over time.
Enamel becomes thinner and dentin darkens as we age, affecting our tooth color. Also, enamel is porous, so some foods and beverages can impact the color as well. The most common causes of dull, dingy, or discolored teeth include:
- Tobacco products
- Beverages such as coffee, tea, red wines, and colas
- Aging
- Poor dental hygiene
- Certain medical treatments and medications
- Tooth decay or trauma
In addition to removing stains or discoloration, tooth whitening can also help prepare your teeth for certain dental work. The dental porcelain used in crowns, bridges, veneers or dentures is color-matched to your natural teeth to blend in seamlessly.
But because these cosmetic and restorative dental fixtures are designed to be stain resistant, they don’t respond to whitening treatments. So if you whiten dull or dingy teeth after receiving these fixtures, your dental work will be more noticeable.
Opalescence Boost: Whiten Your Teeth in Our Care
Our office in Plantation offers Opalescence Boost Teeth Whitening, a way to whiten your smile while you relax in our care. Opalescence Boost uses a tooth-whitening gel that includes potassium nitrate and fluoride, two ingredients that research has shown help minimize tooth sensitivity, increase the hardness of natural tooth enamel, and even reduce cavities.
Unlike some other professional whitening treatments, Opalescence Boost doesn’t need to be paired with a light to take effect. It’s chemically activated, making it a quick, comfortable, yet powerful way to whiten teeth and remove stains without much of a wait.
Before applying Opalescence Boost, our hygienist or dentist will confirm that you don’t have any cavities or gum disease. Then we’ll assess your current tooth color and apply the whitening gel to your teeth with a gentle, brushed tip. You’ll notice the results before you’re ready to leave our office.
Opalescence Go®: Impressive Teeth Whitening at Home
If you prefer a more discreet option, we also carry Opalescence Go, a professional-strength teeth whitening product in a kit to use at home. Available only from dentists, Opalescence Go is a safe and simple way to brighten your teeth noticeably in less than two weeks. The kit comes with disposable trays prefilled with pleasant-tasting whitening gel, so you won’t need to worry about measuring the proper amount of ingredients or be fitted for a custom mouthpiece.
Just like Opalescence Boost, Opalescence Go uses a hydrogen peroxide gel that includes potassium nitrate and fluoride to improve your teeth’s overall health. To apply, center one of the trays over your upper or lower teeth and bite gently. You’ll need to suck down or swallow to secure the gel against your teeth, then remove the colored outer tray. You’ll wear the clear, comfortable inner tray for a matter of minutes while the product does its work.
Opalescence Go comes in two strengths. Choose a concentration of 15% of whitening ingredients to wear for 15 to 20 minutes a day over five to ten days, or a 10% concentration worn for about 30 to 60 minutes over the same length of time. Once your daily treatment is done, simply discard the tray and brush your teeth as you normally would.
