Benefits of the All-on-4 Implant-Supported Denture Treatment

Since 1998 when Nobel Biocare, a world leader in dental technology, developed the All-on-4 dental implant treatment, hundreds of thousands of people have opted for All-on-4 dental implant therapy. One reason is because the All-on-4 treatment is less invasive than other procedures.

Prior to receiving traditional dental implant surgery, patients are often required to make a series of visits to the dental office to receive bone grafts to build up the jawbone so it can support the traditional implants. With the All-on-4 treatment, bone grafts are usually not required. As a result, patients heal faster and are able to enjoy the benefits of their permanent dentures supported by All-on-4 dental implants sooner.

During a single visit to the dentist, the patient can receive All-on-4 implants attached to a temporary denture. In some cases, they can even have their permanent denture attached to their All-on-4 implants the same day. This is referred to as “teeth-in-a-day.” Because the All-on-4 treatment requires fewer implants and less-invasive surgery, it is typically less expensive than traditional implant surgery.

How the All-on-4 Treatment Procedure Works

All-on-4 dental implant therapy uses just four dental implants to permanently attach a complete row of prosthetic teeth to the lower or upper jaw. After you've been comfortably sedated, the dentist places two thin titanium posts directly into the jawbone in the front of your mouth and two more titanium posts tilted at a 45-degree angle in the back of your mouth. The 45-degree angle is the key to the All-on-4 concept. It allows the dentist to place the implants deeper into the jawbone than is possible with traditional implant surgery. As a result, the bone grafts that often accompany traditional dental implant surgery are no longer necessary.

The titanium in the implants is compatible with human bone. As a result, the jawbone will begin to fuse around the implants in a few months, firmly and permanently locking them into place. After the All-on-4 dental implants have completely fused with the jawbone, the patient returns to the dentist to have their implants topped with a permanent bridge or denture that is custom-made to match the shape and shade of the patient’s natural teeth. Your friends won't be able to tell the difference between your dentures supported by All-on-4 dental implants and the real thing.

An added benefit of All-on-4 dental implants is they prevent the deterioration of the jawbone that naturally occurs when it no longer has roots supporting it. This deterioration can give denture wearers a drawn, haggard appearance. With All-on-4 dental implants, the face maintains its proper proportions, reducing wrinkles and providing a more youthful appearance.
